These noisy fowl bring back fond memories of growing up near the Umngeni River and walking the dogs while the birds flew into roost at dusk. Their calls varied from a soft whistle when calm and content to a harsh, raspy rattle when threatened. We were lucky enough to own one saved from death as a chick and he would often treat us to his array of language depending on his mood.
