This series was created over a few years with the King protea being my first piece. It was one of those pieces so clear in my mind that I barely used a reference photograph and has since been sold to a dear friend.
The sugarbird bird and pin cushions was inspired by a trip to the Cape, South Africa. We walked in one of the fynbos reserves and were surrounded by these, one of my favourite flowers, and the birds feeding on them.
The queen protea is a slightly more abstract style with a small nod to our friends, the bees.
